Is anyone in the impacted areas?
Any particular prayers requests for you or loved ones?

Yes! We are in Western NC outside of Boone. We live in an old farmhouse (1790) on the Watauga River. We had just under 5 feet of water through the first floor of our house. My husband was on a college visit with one of our daughters at the time, so it was myself and two teens home at the time. We were able to evacuate to higher ground (we live in the mountains) at a restored barn next door, do we had the unique opportunity to actually watch our house flood and then watch the waters recede. After the waters receded we were left with about 6 inches of sludge covering our floors, and the inside of all cabinets and drawers. We’re a homeschooling family with a literature approach and sadly lost hundreds and hundreds of books we’ve collected over the years. That may have the hardest part for me.
We were well stocked with food and supplies before the flood, but with sludge over everything we’re unable to USE what we had stored. So we’ve definitely learned for next time how to better store our things.
This is the IMPORTANT part I want to share with you. Your government is not here to take care of you! FENA, National Guard, Red Cross (which I know is not gov., but it is big business) is doing nothing/ minimal up here. It is your community that rallies around. The churches, Samaritans Purse, folks we’ve never met. It’s the OEOPLE who are doing work, and it is a BEAUTIFUL thing to witness!
We’ve had help from a Samaritan’s Purse, a team from our church, a group of young men from a university in our town, a man with a trackhoe driving down our road, asking if he could smooth out our gravel driveway, neighbors we didn’t even know, coming in on 4 wheelers delivering lunches to all those working on our property, other neighbor’s driving by offering water, fresh fruit, cleaning items, first aid kits….folks offering bedrooms to sleep in, etc. It has just been incredible. Our church has partnered with SP, and what they are doing is a HUGE operation, now extending out to 3 other nearby counties. We are so very grateful. We are staying in a roomy house near to our property which has ample room for us and our 4 teens still at home. Our family is doing as well as we could have ever hoped. We are safe and all together, do we are very blessed. We’ve had a great loss of material items, but those can be replaced. We’ve had people offering us money, but thankfully we are ok. We’ve been asking them to give a donation to Samaritan’s Purse. We cannot speak of them highly enough. Please forgive typos. My laptop was lost in the flood, and I’m bad with typing on my phone. (Big fingers small keyboard!) But I wanted to give a perspective on what I am seeing here.

Hi Pam!
I am SO THANKFUL you and your family are okay. Thank you for sharing your story with us. What a blessing that everyone is pulling together to help each other and, specifically, your family.
Preppers have been saying for years that no one is coming to help you (meaning the government) and I think they have been proven correct.
I've heard so many people speaking positively of Samaritan's Purse over the past week.
I'm so sorry about the books. I know they are earthly things, but for a homeschooling family they are a big part of a family culture.
Please keep us posted about how things are going. It's helpful to hear from someone I "know" about what is happening there.
Hugs,
Sallie
