This Is Why We Made the Choices We Did

This short video explains a lot about why David and I made the choices we did. We opted for less money and “things” and more time together. We have one good car (and one very old one that sits in the garage). We don’t get new clothes all the time. We’ve taken no vacations since we had Caroline. David and I took two nice U.S. trips early in our marriage and several very nice weekend getaways around Michigan before we became parents. We made some significant sacrifices to even do that traveling. But I’m so thankful we did because it would be much more difficult to travel now.

When you marry at 33 and 29 and then don’t have a child until 39, you look at TIME very differently. We felt that we had already missed out on so much time together as a couple and family. We didn’t want to squander it.

The three of us have had so much time together. You never get time back. We can keep plugging away and making money which is what we are doing even while our peers are starting to retire. But whatever happens moving forward, we’ve had time together. So much. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
